The World Rowing Cup will take place in the upcoming weekend in Poznan (Poland). From 16th to 18th June, 500 competitors from around the world will compete on Malta Regatta Course.
Poznań organizes the World Rowing Cup for the 5th time. This sport contributes to the development of our city. Poznan is one of the top-notch locations in the world where such competitions take place – says Tomasz Lewandowski, Deputy Mayor of Poznan.
Natalia Madaj, gold medalist at the Rio 2016 Olympics, as well as the winner of the last year’s World Rowing Cup in Poznan, announces that she will not take part in the competition this year. I will not compete. On the other hand, I will support all the rowers. I especially keep my fingers crossed for my colleagues from Poland. I think that the World Rowing Cup will be really interesting. We will see the best rowers from around the world in Poznan. This will be a great test before the World Championships – says Madaj.
500 competitors from 39 countries in the world will compete on Malta Lake. The World Rowing Cup will also include a competition for disabled rowers.
Poznan is one of the few regatta courses in the world, where the infrastructure is appropriate for disabled athletes. This shows that it is possible to combine professional competitive rowing with rowing for disabled people. All the competitors will be accompanied by more than two hundred members of the International Rowing Federation (FISA), referees and coaches. The competition will be supported by 100 trained volunteers and medical, technical and security staff – explains Aleksander Daniel, President of the Wielkopolska Association of Rowing Societies.
This type of events is a showcase for Poznan allowing for promotion of the city. The competition will be broadcasted by national and international televisions. We expect that around 1 million people around the world will watch the World Roiwng Cup on Malta Regatta Course – concludes Tomasz Lewandowski, Deputy Mayor of Poznan. He also adds that Poznan Sports and Recreations Centers infrastructure facilities are systematically upgraded. We have allocated large funds for modernisation. The main tribune will be renovated and we also invest in facilities located in its immediate surroundings. We have already built an outdoor gym and before the summer season we should have 2 beach football and volleyball pitches next to the lake. The bathing area will also be completely modernised – assures Tomasz Lewandowski.
